Mother’s Day weekend in Bay Saint Louis is going to be on fire! “Nothing defines Hill Country Blues like Cedric Burnside,” said Rachel Dangermond, owner of 100 Men Hall. “Cedric opened the Hall back up in grand style in October 2018, and every time I hear him sing, ‘We Made It,’ I get goosebumps. Cedric is Hall Royalty.”
Cedric Burnside won a Grammy in 2019 and 2022 in the category of Traditional Blues Album. Burnside was born with Blues in his blood as he is the descendant of Mississippi Hill Country blues royalty, the grandson of famed R.L. Burnside. The Grammy award artist earned his stripes working the drum kit behind his legendary grandfather in juke joints, roadhouses and blues festivals across the country. Touring the world on his own, Cedric's approach to the Blues has a rumbling style and is a hypnotic musical form of chugging rhythms, stinging guitar licks, snap neck drum licks and singing that is filled with sharp changes and raw, cutting rhythms.
The sounds of the blues will mingle with the sweet aroma of food available for purchase from Big Boyz BBQ. According to Dangermond, owner Rodney Beals has never met a stranger and his “butt-master” barbecue is in Beals’ blood — he’s been at the grill since he was 11 years old. He first started serving the masses at his famed annual barbecue that happened every spring at New Orleans’ famed City Park. Though his offerings started small, as these things often do, with just family and friends, over time, word got out about Beals’ tasty meats and soon, big crowds of people were making it a point to attend the event, just to get a taste of what “the mayor” was cooking. It was then that Beals knew he was on to something special and lasting, and his passion soon became his purpose.
