Salgado inspires chills. Upbeat and original…poignant and wise with a great sense of humor. ~Blues Music MagazineCurtis Salgado's range and power as a vocalist are a tour-de-force...hard-nosed blues, beautifully nuanced R&B, phat and funky. ~Billboard
Remember these guys? The Blues Brothers - some know the iconic black suits more than the film itself. In the 80's, the suits became a startlingly sudden trend. Come meet THE original Blues Brother - Salgado was the inspiration behind John Belushi's creation of the Blues Brothers characters in the late 1970s. They met and became friends while Belushi was in Eugene, Oregon filming the movie Animal House.
Award-winning vocalist, instrumentalist and songwriter Curtis Salgado, the man NPR calls “an icon” with “a huge voice,” is revered worldwide for his ability to wring every ounce of soul out of every song he performs. Salgado is famed not only for his powerhouse live shows and ten previous albums, but also for his passionate and insightful original songs. He has been nominated three times for the Blues Music Award for Song Of The Year, winning in 2018 for Walk A Mile In My Blues from The Beautiful Lowdown. In total, he has won eleven Blues Music Awards, including the B.B. King Entertainer Of The Year. DownBeat calls his songwriting skills “an impressive gift.” Billboard says Salgado’s music is “inspired and powerful.” Now, Salgado is back with Damage Control, his first full band album in four years, and it’s packed with fresh, original material.
There will be soul food for purchase by Big Bertha’s Kitchen and Catering. Bertha began cooking at four years old and knew at 18 years of age that food was her passion. Bertha and her family owned a full-service restaurant in Slidell, and seven years ago she came to Bay Saint Louis to start her own catering company, Big Bertha’s Kitchen and Catering. Her specialty is soul food, which is why flavor is her main ingredient. The 100 Men Hall’s membership organization, 100 WOMEN DBA, has a mentorship program to uplift women of color in business in Hancock County – Big Bertha is our star mentee!
