Bay Saint Louis, MS - Join us for an evening of celebration with Pass Books hosting Bernice McFadden on September 9th at 7:00 PM at 100 Men Hall. Bernice McFadden will speak and participate in a panel discussion of her recent book, Firstborn Girls: A Memoir, Danica Hart and dance theater Mississippi (dtMS) will perform. Food for purchase by Caroline’s Creole Cuisine and a cash/credit bar. Free to the community, please RSVP for seating. 

Music, spoken word, and great literature all in one evening honoring one of our greatest writers. The panel discussion will feature McFadden in conversation with Dorothy Roberts and Brenda Blount. After the panel discussion and performances, Bernice McFadden will sign Firstborn Girls: A Memoir and her other books purchased from Pass Books. 

Bernice L. McFadden's latest book is her deeply personal memoir Firstborn Girls: A Memoir, which explores generational trauma, family legacy, and her life journey from childhood up to the publication of her acclaimed debut novel.

About the Author: Bernice L. McFadden is a national bestselling, award-winning author celebrated for her richly layered novels that center ancestry, memory, and the enduring strength of Black women. She is the author of SugarThe Book of Harlan, Praise Song for the Butterflies, and other acclaimed works of fiction. Her writing has earned numerous honors, including the American Book Award and an NAACP Image Award.

 dance theater MS - Founded in 2018 and operating under the innovative umbrella of Calla Arts & Entertainment, dtMS has quietly but powerfully shaped Mississippi’s cultural landscape. Danica Hart is pursuing a solo music career and touring independently. Following the late-2025 disbandment of her country trio Chapel Hart, she launched her solo headlining tour featuring intimate "Open Hart Sessions" and is working on a new solo album.

Pass Books will be on hand with books for purchase. Pass Christian Books (also known as Pass Books) is an independent bookstore located at 300 East Scenic Drive in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Co-located with Cat Island Coffeehouse, the two-story shop overlooks the Gulf of Mexico and features a diverse selection of literature, regional titles, and a dedicated second-floor "Mississippi Loft."

The historical 100 Men Hall, a famed stop on the Chitlin' Circuit, a Must See Venue by Rolling Stone Magazine, winner of the 2024 MS Governor’s Award for Excellence for Arts in the Community, a rare site on the MS Blues Trail, is maintained and preserved under a 501c3 nonprofit organization (Hundred Members Debating Benevolent Association, est. 1894).
